Spam Filters, Autoresponder Messages, And Your Way In

Terry Leslie
You can create an autoresponder series for any potential product or ordering issue that your customers might run into. Whether you need to describe how to install, set up, or use a product or how to go about the process of returning an item, all of the information that you need to deliver to your customers can be had at the click of a mouse. Your customer just simply needs to let the computer know what information he or she requires by selecting the appropriate topic. It really can be that simple. You can take it one step farther by determining the likely issues many customers have and send out an autoresponder message detailing how the customer can get the help they need with just one mouse click.

Spam filters are the result of too many people finding that companies don't listen to their request for privacy. Selling email addresses, phone numbers, and personal information has led to a revolution in the marketing industry. Unfortunately, even some of your opt-in mailing list recipients are going to find your email in their spam box if it even gets into their account at all. This can be frustrating for some, especially when you are just starting out. Your autoresponder messages are supposed to save you time, effort, and energy.

If you have collected your email addresses through a process that is initiated by the recipient, include a set of instructions for them to help get you into their email account. In many cases, the recipient just needs to add you to their email list. In other cases, they have to actually "white list" your email address. Of course, even when you include a set of instructions, not all of your clients will follow the very simple directions and then they won't see your messages. This is especially frustrating when you have offered them a free course via email. Even though they were the one that didn't follow through on the directions, they end up feeling as though you didn't hold up your end of the deal.

There are numerous phrases and keywords that spam filters have been designed to recognize. Often, even if you have been accepted by the client, your email might contain enough of those trigger words to activate the spam filter. Words like "free," "free trial," and "limited time offer" are very high on the spam filter list of reject--able phrases. For awhile, you could get away with using periods in the middle of the word, such as "fr.ee" in order to bypass the spam filters. In some cases, this still works, but not always.

Using an online spam checker can help you determine how to most likely avoid the spam trap. Of course, if you actually are spamming, finding your way around the filters is only going to eventually land you in trouble.
