Top 5 Reasons to Use Twitter to Promote Your Art Business

by: John R Math

Twitter is here to stay! Twitter will soon be approaching more than 100 million users. Large and small corporations have discovered that Twitter is great way for them to help market their products and services, help them with their company branding and the astute companies have also found that Twitter is a great way to enhance their customer service program. Are you using Twitter to help market, brand and promote your art business?

If you are using Twitter, you are way ahead of the curve and if not here are the top 5 reasons why you should be using Twitter to market your artwork:

1. Twitter is a great way to drive traffic to your website. By making contacts (followers) within your business and with your target market you will be able to instantly connect with them, develop a relationship and have those individuals visit your art website.

Every time you Tweet a message, connect either with a follower or Retweet someone's message you are drawing attention to yourself, your art and to your website. In addition, we now have the major search engines picking up real time Tweets as well! This is instant exposure for the artist!

2. By Tweeting and Retweeting the artist is able to be exposed to more people within the art market place. By Retweeting, the artist is able to develop and spread their influence in a very short period of time with a large group of people. Connecting like this was almost impossible to do, as little as 5 years ago! Twitter is a wonderful medium for artists to announce projects, openings, sales or any other event that is related to that artist's work.

3. If done correctly and over time, Twitter will help an artist to develop their brand. What do I mean by correctly? Do not use Twitter for social, political and special interest purposes. Use Twitter for your art business only. Focus all of your “Twitter attention and time” on relevant subjects of interest to your target market!

4. Twitter will help the artist in gaining leads and interest in their artwork. By selectively announcing certain events within the artist's sphere of influence and within the art business this will spread to other followers too. In times when there are no announcements, I suggest that the artist Retweet other follower's announcements or to Tweet on subjects related to their work and of interest to their target market. Tweeting should be done consistently for the best results.

5. Twitter will help the artist to stand out in the crowded art field. It is another way to say to your target market “look at me and my art, as I think I have something you would like”.

The best thing about Twitter is that it is free! You can't beat that can you? Having a Twitter account for art promotion purposes is a smart move and if handled properly will not take a lot of time for the artist to administer. Now is the time for you, the artist to separate yourself from the other artists that you are competing with and set up a Twitter account in order to supplement your current marketing program...
