Are there new marketing opportunities with the iPhone 4s?

by: louis slade

With the launch of iPhone 5 seemingly on hold, smartphone fans are left to play with the next best thing: the iPhone 4s. Despite facing a bit of criticism for lacking a few desirable features and simply not being the model everyone was really anticipating, the new device racked up more than one million sales within the first 24 hours of presale availability. On top of that, it has appeal that translates into some golden opportunities for marketers.

Twitter Integration

Smartphone lovers may not be able to get their hands on the iPhone 5 until Apple makes up its mind on a release date, but they do not have to wait to experience the operating system that powers it. Just like the upcoming fifth generation, the iPhone 4s runs the iOS 5. This platform, which Apple calls the most powerful OS ever, is equipped with more than 200 features, including deep integration of social networking site Twitter. The iPhone 4s makes tweeting from your handset amazingly simple and advanced as posts can be sent directly from built-in apps such as Maps, Safari, and YouTube. Capitalizing on the geolocation trend, it also allows you to add a location to any tweet regardless of the application in use.

Video Conferencing with FaceTime

The iPhone 4s is equipped with two cameras: one in the front, and one in the back. With the front camera, you can take advantage of an exciting new feature known as FaceTime, which is designed to display your face when engaging in video calls with parties on the other line. The back camera is made for sharing what you see. For example, if you want a potential client to check out the latest app your company developed, a quick tap of a button switches to the back camera to take a snap of the screen, while another tap switches back to the front camera for sharing. All in all, FaceTime has great potential for one-on-one video conferences.

Voice-Powered Assistance

One of the most interesting features to hit the iPhone 4s is Siri, a built-in personal assistant that can come to a marketer's aid by sheer command of their voice. This feature could be handy for making phone calls, scheduling meetings, or simply setting reminders. It can also be used to initiate FaceTime conversations with clients or team members. Believe it or not, but Siri is amazingly efficient and picks up on voice commands pretty accurately. We see this one going over well with marketers and consumers alike.

The launch of the iPhone 5 may be in limbo, but for now, the iPhone 4s appears to be a nice alternative. With prices marked as low as $99 for the 8 GB model, Apple is offering a great bargain that will likely keep its fan base happy for the time being. If you're in the market for a new smartphone, marketing value such as this could make the iPhone 4s a viable option.
